Long a favorite literary character for children, Winnie the Pooh made his big-screen debut from Disney in '66, voiced by Sterling Holloway in WINNIE THE POOH AND THE HONEY TREE.
Interestingly, the cartoon claims that Pooh's real name is 'Edwin', no doubt to suggest that 'Winnie' is a play on the 2nd syllable of that name. However, according to A.A. Milne's book, Pooh's actual name is 'Edward'. (As in 'Ed', as in 'Ted', as in 'Teddy', perhaps.)
