Dr. Who and the Daleks

The venerable DR. WHO franchise first appeared in the US in late '66 when Peter Cushing's big screen version crossed the Atlantic.

In England, the Daleks were, if anything, even more popular than the Doctor! Below is a wire service photo from March of 1965. Beneath that is a 1965 MIKE DOUGLAS SHOW episode listing showing that at least some effort was made to make them that popular here as well. Didn't catch on, though.

  1. The movie is the big-screen version of the first Dalek serial, first aired between December 21, 1963 to February 1, 1964. All seven episodes have survived, and appeared on DVD.
